Horror at Co-op as teenage boy, 13, 'sprays poisonous chemicals in staff's faces' leaving them with

A 13-YEAR-OLD boy has been arrested after "poisonous chemicals" were sprayed in the faces of staff at a Co-op supermarket.

The teen allegedly sprayed three female and one male workers with a "noxious substance" before running off at 2.40pm on Sunday.

Cops said a youth attacked staff at the the Co-op branch in Corby, Northamptonshire, after they confronted him and another youth who they thought were "acting suspiciously".

The four workers were taken to hospital with nasty injuries to their faces.

Northamptonshire Police said: "A 13-year-old boy has been arrested after a noxious substance was sprayed in the faces of members of staff at the Central England Co-op Society store in Welland Vale Road.

"The incident occurred at about 2.40pm on Sunday when staff confronted two youths who they believed were behaving suspiciously in the store.

"One of the males is alleged to have produced an unknown substance and sprayed it at staff before running off.

"The staff – three females and a male – suffered reddening to the skin and blistering to the mouth.

"All four were admitted to hospital for treatment before being later discharged.

A spokesperson added: "The 13-year-old boy from Kettering was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of Section 18 – causing grievous bodily harm and released on police bail pending further investigations.

"Officers are still appealing for witnesses and would like to hear from anyone who may have any information which could assist with their inquiries."
