Madame Tussauds Unveils Four Whitney Houston Figures: PHOTOS
In celebration of the life and legacy of the late Whitney Houston, Madame Tussauds New York unveiled four wax figures of the star in memorable moments during her career on Thursday, Feb. 7, in Manhattan.
Sissy Houston and her son and daughter-in-law Gary and Pat Houston were among invited guests on hand to witness the special exhibit. Noticeably absent was Bobbi Kristina Brown. Her aunt told reporters, “For Krissy this is a bit much, to see figures of her mother. It’s tough enough for her, and we didn’t want to pressure her into making a decision to come.”
The four likenesses will be permanently installed at Madame Tussauds attractions in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York and Washington D.C. It is the first time in the 200-year history of Madame Tussauds that four distinct likenesses were created and simultaneously launched representing different points in a subject’s life.
The elegant gold sequined floor-length gown is a nod to one Houston wore in the the ‘I Look to You’ album photo shoot. The ‘Queen of the Night’ costume references Whitney’s 1992 film ‘The Bodyguard.’ The white track suit with red, white and blue details harkens back to her brilliant rendition of the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ at Super Bowl XXV. The figure dressed in the curly blonde wig and tank dress is a take on Houston’s 1987 music video ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody.’
Houston died in a hotel bathtub hours before she was to attend the Grammy Awards on Feb. 11, 2012. She was 48.
